July 09, 2012, 2:21 pm — /EPR NETWORK/ — Nothing is worse than being in the middle of a great action film and have somebody interrupt the viewing because the phone needs to be answered. What if it is the telemarketer or an annoying neighbor, with whom one may not want to speak to? Wouldn’t it be nice to just have those call ignored? Or at least have the knowledge of who is calling, and then make the decision to pick up or not, all while continuing to watch that great action film with minimal interruption.

The Vatican on Saturday, Jan. 23rd issued a positive affirmation of media in the Church: (Zenit.org) Benedict XVI is encouraging Catholics, especially priests, to use media technologies to reach new audiences with the message of God’s love. The Pope affirmed this in a message, released Saturday, for the 44th World Communications Day, which will be celebrated May 16. The theme of the day, “The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word,” reflects the Year for Priests currently underway in the Church. The Pontiff affirmed that in digital communications, “priests can discover new possibilities for carrying out their ministry to and for the Word of God. The recent, explosive growth and greater social impact of these media make them all the more important for a fruitful priestly ministry.”

Lottie Dot was instead abandoned by her breeder in the middle of a ferocious Oklahoma winter storm. The little pup was rescued by her son, and Patricia Belt quickly claimed Lottie Dot as her own. When it was discovered that Lottie was deaf, Patricia taught her dog sign language and enrolled her in classes to become a “therapy dog.” Today Lottie volunteers at hospitals, gives demonstrations at a school for deaf children, and participates in a reading program, which promotes literacy by having children read aloud to a dog. “Lottie can’t hear these precious kids read a single word,” Patricia says. “She listens in a different way; with her heart.”
