easyCar reveals what drives couples mad

Released on: May 28, 2008, 8:23 am

Press Release Author: easyCar

Industry: Automotive

Press Release Summary: easyCar research reveals the most common causes of couplesРІР‚в„ў driving squabbles

Press Release Body: Forget the credit crunch or what to watch on TV; according to new research from one of the most common causes of arguments between British couples is what goes on behind the steering wheel.

This latest research from reveals 37% of couples argue when driving abroad – second only to couples’ quarrels over money (41%). But it’s not all bad news for UK motorists, according to leading psychologist David Moxon, most drivers simply need to recognise their driving habits and adapt them accordingly.

Drivers motoring traits become more pronounced when travelling on unfamiliar foreign roads and the top driving irritants for loved ones are poor map reading (48%), driving too fast (28%) and not understanding road signs (21%).

Professor Moxon has identified four key types of UK drivers when abroad: the SatNavvies which make up 43% of the population, the Planners (37%), the Road Signers (19%) and the Freewheelers (13%).

SatNavvies are characterised by their reliance on the shiny piece of equipment adorning their dashboards. So attached are they to this piece of electronic wizardry, they are unlikely to believe itРІР‚в„ўs capable of any inaccuracy until theyРІР‚в„ўre bonnet down in a ditch. The downfall of this type is that 69% end up arguing with their passengers when driving abroad because they believe the machine is all-knowing. The number one tip for partners of SatNavvies is to relax and enjoy the ride, not a lot can be done to fight the machine.

The next most frequent driving type is the Planner. Drivers in this category like to organise all routes in advance of heading abroad, often using three different advisor sites to plan their journey down to the last comfort break. This approach leads to significantly less disagreements with just half (54%) arguing with their passengers. Anyone finding themselves stuck with a planner can rest assured theyРІР‚в„ўre in safe hands as theyРІР‚в„ўre the most likely of all types to end safely at a prescribed destination.

The third largest driving type is the Road Signer (19%). These drivers are impatient to start on their adventure. They dismiss map reading and shun SatNav in favour of relying heavily on road signs, regardless of whether they can actually understand them. Unfortunately this is not the most diplomatic approach and like the SatNavvies, 7 out of 10 Road Signers end up quarrelling behind the wheel. The top tip dealing with this type is to research the route in advance in order to gently guide in the absence of road signs.

The final and smallest group at 13% of UK adults is the Freewheeler. This type drives through natural instinct alone, not bothering with the hassle of maps or SatNavs, they trust they will instinctively know which way to turn when they come to that all-important crossroad. It may be a great life philosophy, but one in two (54%) Freewheelers still end up in driving disputes. Top tip: miraculously discover a map in the glove-box.

Bill Jones, CEO of, said: “A driving holiday is the best way to get off the well-trod tourist path and do some exciting trail-blazing of your own. A bit of forward planning can help make sure your road trip is stress-free.”

All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 4,173 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 15th – 18th April 2008. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+).

Industry: Retail

Press Release Summary: Oasis announce their collaboration with the second London Fashion in Film Festival 2008, ‘If Looks Could kill’, as part of their commitment to supporting emerging talent and design

Press Release Body: The Oasis sponsored London Fashion in Film Festival 2008, which is running till the end of May, comprises a series of films sharing the running theme of how fashion, costume and styling are used in film to add an air of chic decadence. The films will be screened at five major London arts venues, the ICA, BFI, Tate Modern, Cine Lumiere and Horse Hospital.

The festival also offers a series of talks, film introductions and Q&As. These will feature the American film scholar Tom Gunning, London-based fashion designer Bella Freud (who will introduce Mannequin in Red), fashion historian Rebecca Arnold and GQРІР‚в„ўs Editor Dylan Jones. A unique programme of new commissions by artists, fashion photographers and designers, including Shannon Plumb, Eloise Fornieles and Elizabeth McAlpine, will also premier at Tate Modern, reflecting the festivalРІР‚в„ўs ongoing commitment to supporting emerging artists and funding new work.

Sharon O’Connor, Managing Director of Oasis commented: “We are very excited to be sponsoring the second Fashion in Film Festival. These rarely seen films, dating back to 1908, present us with a source of iconic fashion images which have visibly influenced the contemporary scene. The unique programme of new commissions highlights the creativity and originality of emerging talent and design, values shared and supported by Oasis.”

In homage to this collaboration, the Oasis AW 2008 collection delves into the cinematic archives unique to this festival and has created a collection perfect for modern day sirens.

Paying homage to 1920РІР‚в„ўs screen icon Marlene Dietrich, Desire is feminine and eclectic fusing art deco pieces in sheer fabrics with seductive suiting, perfectly echoing the Bloomsbury era. Show stopping flapper dresses with drop waists feature in luxurious fabrics of sheer chiffon and silk, lovingly adorned with delicate beading and tassel trims. Colours are sumptuous in a mix of washed out pink, berry, chocolate, camel and teal.

Luxe Tux focuses on modern androgynous tailoring with a distinct cinematic feel. Tailored tuxedo suits with razor sharp cutting sat back to structured dresses epitomize this clean as a whistle look. Cinched in waists, strong shoulders and lady like skirts create this definitive silhouette with a nod to 1950РІР‚в„ўs styling. Colours appear in a rich inky mix of gold on black, blood orange and darkest red. Bags are small, structured and clutch; shoes are red high shine and stacked.

Love Story brings modern undertones to this Ali MacGraw seventies inspired look. Liberty print fabrics with delicate lace trims integrated in dresses, blouses and volume tops. Exuding girlish charm, Love Story creates a soft naive look sat back to tougher fabrics of denim, suede and leather. Denim skirts sit high on the waist and look fresh teamed with a printed blouse and fur lined waistcoat whilst wide leg trousers feature contrast stitching with oversized front pockets.

Doctor Zhivago is pure luxe winter dressing, mixing sumptuous textures and fabrics of sheepskin, faux fur, cashmere and super soft wool. Warm handle fabrics are oversized and appear on thick shearling coats and fitted jumpers. Earthy tones of slate grey, antique cream and sage make this look a versatile option for day or evening.

Curtain Call features a range of must-have accessories including hats in every incarnation ranging from the cute cloche to the floppy seventies felt style. Tights are patterned all over, perfect worn with this seasons stacked heel dolly shoes. Jewellery stays big whilst bags appear in extremes from small and boxy to oversized and slouchy.

The association with the Fashion in Film Festival also brings a wealth of influence to the Oasis AW 2008 short film, presenting still and moving images for a collection inspired by the feminine allure and glamour of film with a distinctive Oasis twist.
