New FDA Regulations Require More Of Opioid Drug Makers

New England Rehab Highlights Newest Problem With Cocaine

WASHINGTON DCMay 01, 2012, 2:24 pm — /EPR NETWORK/ — New research suggests that cocaine causes the brain to age faster in chronic users than the normal aging process for non-users of cocaine. A study by scientists at the University of Cambridge, and published in Molecular Psychiatry, focused on the grey matter of the brain in chronic cocaine users versus the grey matter of those who didn’t use cocaine. The study pointed out that while everyone loses grey matter every year, those who were chronic cocaine users lost grey matter at double the rate of non-users. Grey matter in the brain is responsible for decision-making, self-regulation, attention and memory, and the increased loss of it causes the brain to age more rapidly.
