Press Release Summary: LV= has reported that one in three people in the UK believe that their neighbourhood has declined since they moved to the area.

Press Release Body: LV=, the UK insurance company, has commissioned a new report that has revealed that UK neighbourhoods appear to be in decline, with one in three people (33%) believing that their neighbourhood has gotten worse since they moved to the area. Moreover, a quarter of people said that they would like to move out of their neighbourhood, with less than one in ten saying that they would like it to remain ‘as it is’.

The ’UK Neighbourhoods Report’ from LV, commissioned amongst more than 4000 home owners and home renters in the UK, paints a bleak picture of the declining standards of neighbourhoods in the UK. People say that compared to five years ago, they feel less safe, that local amenities and services have deteriorated, plus they have a growing fear of becoming a victim of street crime.

The report revealed that for most people, the concept of an ideal neighbourhood is one where they can live a quiet life free from the threat of street crime and anti-social behaviour. However, one in three people (32%) in the UK said that they feel they have seen an increase in street crime in their neighbourhood, with only 8% of people saying they have seen a drop over the last five years. This led to one in four people (28%) saying they feel unsafe walking in their neighbourhood at night.

Recently the Government announced that crime prevention and neighbourhood safety would be taken more seriously, with Communities Minister Baroness Andrewsannouncing a £500 million plan to revive deprived communities across the country, with the aim of cutting crime levels, improving educational achievements and boosting job opportunities.

John ‘O Roarke, managing director of LV Home Insurance, said: “This report shows that a large number of people throughout the country are not happy with the area they live in and, although there are many reasons for this, part of this is because of the apparent rise in street crime over the years. It is only natural for people to feel they should be able to rely on the police and crime prevention measures to make them feel secure but most people see standards largely as ‘average’, with a further quarter saying they actually regard it as poor.

“This paints a bleak picture of how large parts of society view their local areas, so this announcement by the Government to inject £500 million into certain areas to help tackle street crime is much needed.”

According to the report from the home insurer, the most popular thing that people in the UK want to change about their neighbourhood is the level of council tax they pay, with four out of ten people (40%) saying this is the biggest issue for them.

John ‘O Roarke continued: ”Council tax has never been the most popular of bills but the fact that so many people are unhappy with the level they are paying can probably be linked back to the fact that people generally appear to believe that their local services need a lot of improvements made.

“It’s all too easy to say that if people are that unhappy with their neighbourhood, then they should move to somewhere else but with the current housing market decline and the credit crunch, it’s a difficult period for those who are aiming to sell their homes or move on. The Government has announced a number of steps to tackle neighbourhood concerns but only time will tell if they are enough.”

Press Release Summary: M&S Money urge pet owners to ensure household medication is securely stored following increase in reports of pet poisonings

Press Release Body: M&S Money has urged pet owners to ensure medication is securely stored around the house following a large increase in reports of pet poisonings.

The potentially fatal mishap is a growing problem across the UK, with a 34% year-on-year increase in reported cases to Vetfone - a 24-hour advice line available to M&S Pet Insurance customers. Vetfone is manned by qualified veterinary nurses who can give concerned animal lovers immediate advice on a pet’s condition. Around 70% of calls to the service by M&S Money customers are made out of normal veterinary hours.

One of the major increases of poisonings seen involves nicotine-based products, including nicotine patches, chewing gum and inhalers.

The toxic dose of nicotine in dogs is five milligrams per pound pet bodyweight and a dose of 10mg/lb can be lethal. While a cigarette contains 15-25 milligrams of nicotine, nicotine patches can contain much more at between 8-114 milligrams of nicotine and even nicotine inhalers contain around 10 milligrams of nicotine. Signs of toxicity are dose-dependent and include tremors, weakness, depression and vomiting.

Vetfone Operations Manager & Senior Emergency Vet Nurse, Louise O’Dwyer, said:“It is very concerning that there has been such a large increase in reported pet poisonings.

“Nicotine poisoning can be particularly serious. Remember prevention is better than cure, so ensure products such as cigarettes, nicotine patches and gums and even ashtrays containing cigarette butts are kept away from your pets reach.”

M&S Money Insurance Manager, Judith Roberts, said: “Anyone who suspects that their pet has swallowed household medication should first try and identify what’s been eaten, by recovering packaging such as blister packs or boxes and then seek immediate veterinary advice.

M&S Pet Insurance policyholders can rest assured that a qualified veterinary expert is available round the clock to provide advice and answer questions should a pet become unwell.”

Press Release Summary: Lloydspharmacy has introduced a new range of products, including the Dog Pedometer, in time for Christmas

Press Release Body: Lloydspharmacy has released a new range of pet products with particular focus on the Dog Pedometer - a gadget that aims to ensure dogs get enough exercise in order to fight the growing rates of diabetes in pets. With the RSPCA estimating that as many as half of UK dogs are now overweight* and experts agreeing that one in 500 dogs will suffer from diabetes**, an obesity related illness, dog owners are being urged to consider their pet’s health this Christmas.

Healthcare specialists Lloydspharmacy have launched a new range of Christmas gifts for pets so that owners can give their favourite ‘family member’ something fun, stylish and good for them.

With recent research showing that 30% of dogs in the UK are overweight*** there is a very real chance that many pets could be in serious need of some more exercise. Furthermore, it is estimated that one in 500 dogs will develop diabetes during their lifetime - a serious medical condition affecting blood sugar levels, which are best controlled in animals by exercise along with diet and blood glucose monitoring.

All the evidence points to the fact that dogs need the right amount of exercise to stay healthy, yet many owners are blissfully unaware of how much exercise their pooches are actually getting - so they have no way of knowing if they are getting enough.

For this Christmas, Lloydspharmacy has launched a new Dog Pedometer, so that dog owners can give their beloved pet a gift that will benefit them well beyond the usual festive treats and bones, and give them the healthiest and happiest start to the New Year. With the capacity to count up to 99,999 steps and offering two different modes to fit smaller and larger animals, the Dog Pedometer will help keep track of a pet’s exercising so that owners can plan and monitor its improvement over time.

A lightweight and compact device, the electronic Dog Pedometer is designed in white and black in the shape of a canine’s face, so it will look charming on every four-legged friend. Sliding comfortably onto a collar, its one touch digital display provides instant feedback on the dog’s activity.

Other gifts in the Lloydspharmacy Christmas pet gift range include a black dog collar with silver paw motifs, which is available in two sizes and made from 100% polyurethane, and a cat collar, that comes in gold and silver, with diamante studs and a bell.

Diabetes is a serious condition, which led Lloydspharmacy to introduce free diabetes tests through their pharmacies.

About Lloydspharmacy:
Lloydspharmacy is the trading name of Lloyds Pharmacy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Celesion AG based in Stuttgart. Lloydspharmacy has more than 1700 pharmacies across the UK and employs more than 16,000 members of staff.

Lloydspharmacy offers free type 2 diabetes screening tests and free blood pressure tests.

Press Release Author: Totally Fitness

Industry: Retail

Press Release Summary: The Doggy Treadmill which received funding from BBC “Dragon”, James Caan, is now to be made available for pet owners to purchase through Totally Fitness

Press Release Body: Following a meeting between the new star of BBCРІР‚в„ўs DragonsРІР‚в„ў Den, James Caan and Totally Fitness director, Oliver Zissman, Totally Fitness has decided to add the treadmill range from FitFurLife Ltd to its exclusive list of high quality cardio equipment. This is the first time that Totally Fitness has sold a piece of fitness equipment that was not designed for human use.

But why use a dog treadmill? It is generally understood that a well-exercised dog is typically a well-behaved dog however a regular walk is not always enough. Treadmill training for dogs provides a complete muscle enhancing, toning and fitness regime that not only improves the overall health and vitality of a dog, but helps it curb destructive behavioural problems, increases life span and prevents obesity. These treadmills which are now being made available through Totally Fitness can give a dog a real workout, allows the owner to control the terrain, and eliminate distractions, and the dog can run regardless of weather.

Veterinary Surgeons, professional breeders, showing industry and owners have been using the dog treadmill for a wide variety of training and exercise purposes, particularly rehabilitation post-operative physiotherapy.

Professional breeders use the treadmill for show ring practice and gait analysis, so their dogs are in top show condition. Dogs are often put on a dog treadmill to have their gaits analyzed, so by practicing the gait on a regular basis, breeders can analyze and improve a dogРІР‚в„ўs chance of winning.

Like doctors treating human patients, vets have been using treadmills to refine post-operative rehabilitation, under controlled conditions, of both medical and surgical operations. This has been demonstrated to dramatically improve the rate of recovery and the end result.

The dog treadmill is highly effective for any type of sporting dog as it is ideal to continue the fitness programme when the weather outside is not permitting.

Owners who have a high energy dog (which results in a badly behaved dog because energy levels arenРІР‚в„ўt being exerted) use the treadmill on a regular basis, achieving drastic results in the dogРІР‚в„ўs attitude, thus decreasing barking, biting and chewing.

Totally Fitness have now made the Fit Fur Life Treadmill available through their site in a couple of different sizes as well the Superior Fit Fur Life Treadmill which is the perfect treadmill for professional breeders, and the Professional Fit Fur Life Treadmill for Dogs which is designed for heavy use.

Press Release Summary: Displaysense, the UKРІР‚в„ўs leading supplier of retail display products have received a peculiar request from one of the UKРІР‚в„ўs largest pet product retailers to source a range of Perspex pet coffins and display boxes

Press Release Body: Displaysense, the UKРІР‚в„ўs leading supplier of retail display products have received a peculiar request from one of the UKРІР‚в„ўs largest pet product retailers to source a range of Perspex pet coffins and display boxes.

The pet shop retailer plans to promote these acrylic displays as a way for customers to create elaborate memorials in their gardens for their beloved deceased stuffed pets. It is thought that this pet shop retailer has asked Displaysense due to the retail display suppliers wealth of experience in acrylic display products and display boxes.

This enquiry has arisen due to a growing demand from the pet shop chains customers to be able to see their pet after it has passed away. According to the BBCРІР‚в„ўs website, although the number of people owning a pet is on the decrease pet owners in the UK are spending an estimated Р’Р€3.8bn a year on their pets with one in three adults admitting that they love their pets more than their children.

“With our experience in the display industry and the retail experience of the pet product chain, we are looking forward to a successful partnership”, said James Crawford, Sales Director at Displaysense.

The fact that deceased animals could soon be on display in gardens around the country could anger some animal activists saying that this is a step too far. However people’s love for their pets, along with a wish to preserve them after death is not a recent trend. There have been many discoveries of the ancient Egyptians mummifying their pets, especially cats, dogs and birds, although many other species of animals have also been found, which could then be buried in sanctified plots. James Crawford commented on this point by saying, “We will be working closely with the retailer, its customers and the animal rights groups to ensure that the views of the different parties are taken into account so we can get a product that is tasteful and not an eye sore in any community. There are currently various ranges and designs of pet coffins available on the internet, however an acrylic coffin for a garden display is a unique product.”

The pet coffin is essentially a larger version of a display box and Displaysense plan to work closely with the retailer to ensure that the acrylic coffin is secure, preventing animals or even thieves from stealing the stuffed pet or the entire display.

While the development of the unusual display range is in its early stages and isnРІР‚в„ўt planned to be available until summer 2008, it is expected that the cost of the product range would start at a RRP of around Р’Р€99.

About Displaysense
Displaysense was established in September of 1978 as a manufacturer of quality point of sale displays. They have a wealth of experience in design and manufacturing and have been able to develop their ever growing standard range of over 1500 displays. The range is now hugely diverse including display boxes, display cabinets, Perspex displays, display stands, acrylic displays and trays.

Displaysense works with a large range of clients including, retailers (multiple and independent), blue chip corporate clients, cafГ©s, bars, restaurants and night clubs, shop and office fitters, marketing and promotions companies, designers and architects, product distributors, exhibition contractors and exhibitors, printers, councils and NHS trusts, charities, schools and universities.

Press Release Summary = Stena Line now boasts new and improved kennels on the recently lengthened and refurbished Superferries on the Harwich – Hook of Holland route

Press Release Body = Leading ferry operator Stena Line now boasts new and improved kennels for the beloved dog to provide a comfortable place to rest while owners enjoy the new onboard experience on Stena LineРІР‚в„ўs newly lengthened and refurbished Superferries.

As part of the latest refurbishments on the Stena Britannica, which sails on the Harwich – Hook of Holland (http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/stena_line_uk/gb/harwich_-_holland.html) route, Stena Line have ensured that there is enough room in each of their
well-ventilated kennels for petite pooches to colossal canines. The pet area is situated in a special quiet area of the vessel to ensure travelling pets can remain as calm and tranquil as possible during the crossing. The Stena Hollandica will also soon have its own designated pet area to ensure that no matter which of the ferries customers choose to travel on, they can rest assured that pet travel to Holland with Stena Line (http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/stena_line_uk/harwich_-_holland/planning_your_trip/gb/travel_with_pets.html) will be stress free for both pets and owners.

Stena Line (http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/gb/stena_line_uk.html) already gives dog owners who wish to transport their pet the option to house their dog within their own vehicle for the duration of the crossing, whilst those travelling with a cat can keep them in the comfort of their own cat boxes inside the car. With Stena Line prices for pet travel to Holland (http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/stena_line_uk/harwich_-_holland/planning_your_trip/gb/travel_with_pets.html) costing less than a few days at most boarding kennels, the service is proving to be popular amongst pet owners and makes bringing a pet along to enjoy the holiday a pleasing alternative compared with leaving them in a kennel.

Last year Stena Line transported over 2,700 cats and dogs across the North Sea, with the majority of dogs crossing during the summer holidays. This displays a rising trend for UK travellers to take their pets on holiday with them.

Holland has always proved a popular destination for travellers, boasting a range of outdoor activities for holidaymakers, with or without their pets, from walks in the parks or along the many canals of Rotterdam to cycling HollandРІР‚в„ўs picturesque towns and countryside.

Press Release Summary = The latest trend in pet wear is statement clothing with messages that make a difference

Press Release Body = MyConservationBaby.com, the Fletcher, North Carolina-based company which paved the way for conservation messages on baby onesies and toddler tees has done it again. The company just introduced its newest addition—a 100% cotton black pet tee shirt silk-screened with the message to Stop Global Warming in white and gold.

“Stylish pet clothes with conservation messages are the ultimate way for pet owners to share their values with the rest of the world,” says Ellen McNeill who, along with her husband Michael, launched their innovative website. “Many pet owners consider their pets to be their babies so it is only natural that we would want to satisfy their needs.”

The McNeill’s believe that in addition to their line of hip baby clothes, cool dog clothes are an ideal way to spread important conservation messages. “One of our goals is to increase public awareness of conservation issues and motivate people to take personal action at the family level. You cannot get closer to a family than the family pet.”

The concept of conservation messages on baby clothes is a hit with young moms and the McNeill’s believe that pet clothes with conservation messages will be a hit with small dog owners as well. “Dogs have to breathe in the air as much as we do and they are also impacted by the world around them.”

Ellen McNeill says that the funky pet tee already has a following. “Depending on the success of our Stop Global Warming message we plan to include more messages on pet clothes.” They intend to expand to add Conserve, Protect the Environment, Save the Forests, Recycle and Re-Use and Eco-Friendly.

The company also offers an adult tee with the same Stop Global Warming logo that can be found on the pet tee. “Some pet owners like the idea of the ‘doggie and me’ look,” says McNeill.
