Press Release Summary: SurgiCare statistics reveal the winner of the North vs South in UK battle of the boobs

Press Release Body: New boob job statistics released by SurgiCare, one of the UK’s leading cosmetic surgery providers, have revealed an overwhelming winner in the UK battle of the breasts. There has always been a rivalry between the North and the South, and it seems that when it comes to boob jobs and breast augmentations, this is no different.

The figures from SurgiCare on boob job enquiries and procedures have shown that the northwest is the breast capital of the UK, with Manchester coming out miles ahead of anywhere else in the race for getting the best breasts.

In the past year alone, Manchester women have had 87% more boob jobs with SurgiCare than London women, and a whopping 284% more Northern women have enquired about breast augmentation and boob jobs than their Southern counterparts.

Other Northwest towns such as Bolton, Warrington and Wigan, showed the next highest percentage of boob jobs after Manchester. Yorkshire and the Northeast were next, with many women in Leeds, Bradford and Newcastle looking to improve their image and build their confidence with a breast uplift, whereas Scotland and the Isle of Wight showed very few women undergoing breast augmentation.

The Midlands, including Birmingham and Wolverhampton, came next on the boob front, with Cheshire, England’s richest county and home to many of the UK’s WAGs and footballers, not far behind.

Apart from Bristol, women in London and the Southwest seem to be content with their breasts, as this area showed a significantly lower proportion of boob job enquiries and procedures than other areas of the country.

However despite the differences between North and South, SurgiCare has still seen an overall increase in the demand for boob jobs and breast augmentations over the past year, even despite the recent credit crunch. Even though northern women are the most likely to opt for a boob job to achieve the perfect results they crave, it seems that women all over the UK are still coveting beautiful breasts.

Industry: Apparel & Fashion

Press Release Summary: Opening Doors for Women’s Self-Expression in the Workplace.

Press Release Body: San Clemente, CA November 18th 2008 - Finally there is a much-needed breath of fresh air in the design of womans scrubs and lab coats. Realizing that the style of this important and standard uniform has gone virtually unchanged for over 40 years, Physician Assistant Lara Manchik was inspired by the extraordinary women working in healthcare to fill this great need that has long been overlooked. Manchik along with former Vera Wang designer Adrienne Catrina are bringing a new look and utility updates that are helping women find a balance between looking fashionable and presenting the professional look that is necessary for the industry. The Medelita line ofclinician scrubs and lab coats are incorporating femininity and style in attractively tailored clinician wear that women will be excited to wear to work.

The challenge set out before Manchik and Catrina was to help women find a sense of self-expression and femininity in the scrubs and lab coats that are so much a part of their everyday lives. Yet allow them to fit in with the standards of a male dominated industry. Many of the new Medelita designs include first-time innovations for nursing scrubs and lab coats that not only bring some stylish twists to the classic design but will also make the lives of these medical professionals much easier.

The look is stylish yet professional. The design improvements made to the scrub tops include darting at the bust, tailored sleeves, and tapered waist and hips that give women modern lines and an attractive fit while keeping comfort in mind. The clinician pants feature a contoured rise and a subtle bootleg that gives them a slimming look. The attractive details and feminine colors, combine both fashion and utility while meeting the industry requirements. Medelita’s groundbreaking use of comfortable and technologically advanced fabrics resist spills and stains, and help women present a fresh and clean appearance.

These exciting new design improvements are going to change the way women look medical scrubs and lab coats, as women working in healthcare have been redefining their identity and femininity in the work place. This fresh take on a familiar style is going to give women the professional look tailored to the female figure that they have been craving. With Lara Manchik’s years of experience working in the ER, she knows women have been waiting for the practical innovations, modern style and flattering fit that will make life on the job easier and more comfortable.

Press Release Summary: PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY MAY FALL SHORT WITH OBAMA PLAN

Press Release Body: (DEPERE, WI)—With just a few months before President-elect Barack Obama takes over the White House, one expert is questioning whether his plan for infrastructure reform is complete.

Months ago, Obama called for the creation of a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to help rebuild America’s roads and bridges.

Russ Allen, author of the new book Electrocution of America: Is Your Utility Company Out to Kill You?, says the plan ought to include provisions for dealing with a little-known but serious form of electrical pollution called “stray current.”

“The way that utility companies in this country have built their distribution systems allows stray current to run through American homes and infrastructure on its way back to substations,” says Allen. “That stray current has killed people as well as livestock, and could be taxing the healthcare system by causing illness.”

More and more lawsuits across the nation are being won by plaintiffs who are suing utility companies over this dangerous issue.

Mr. Allen says that Obama’s plan should include legislation that mandates utility companies return stray current to their substations on a third wire, just as the builders of homes are required to install outlets with a third wire. “If stray current isn’t stopped, Americans will continue to suffer its effects,” says Mr. Allen.

Some states, including Wisconsin, Michigan and New York, have already tried to pass legislation requiring that utility companies monitor stray current but many of those attempts have fallen short. The attempted legislation followed studies that confirmed the dangers of stray current.

Electrocution of America is Mr. Allen’s attempt to combat stray voltage and the utilities that allow it. In his book, he points out that stray current, or stray voltage as it is sometimes called, can have devastating effects on people, including:
• An increase in the blood sugar levels of diabetics
• An increase in the severity of the symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis
• An increase in the incidents of ADD in children
• An increase in the numbers of fibromyalgia sufferers

There is even evidence of a reduction in the milk production of livestock.

Russ Allen is one of the heirs to the Allen Dairy Farm outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and a leader in the movement against the electrical pollution of animals. He won a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Wisconsin Public Service for the damage they caused to his dairy herd with the design of their distribution system.

Industry: Retail

Press Release Summary: Lloydspharmacy has introduced a new range of products, including the Dog Pedometer, in time for Christmas

Press Release Body: Lloydspharmacy has released a new range of pet products with particular focus on the Dog Pedometer - a gadget that aims to ensure dogs get enough exercise in order to fight the growing rates of diabetes in pets. With the RSPCA estimating that as many as half of UK dogs are now overweight* and experts agreeing that one in 500 dogs will suffer from diabetes**, an obesity related illness, dog owners are being urged to consider their pet’s health this Christmas.

Healthcare specialists Lloydspharmacy have launched a new range of Christmas gifts for pets so that owners can give their favourite ‘family member’ something fun, stylish and good for them.

With recent research showing that 30% of dogs in the UK are overweight*** there is a very real chance that many pets could be in serious need of some more exercise. Furthermore, it is estimated that one in 500 dogs will develop diabetes during their lifetime - a serious medical condition affecting blood sugar levels, which are best controlled in animals by exercise along with diet and blood glucose monitoring.

All the evidence points to the fact that dogs need the right amount of exercise to stay healthy, yet many owners are blissfully unaware of how much exercise their pooches are actually getting - so they have no way of knowing if they are getting enough.

For this Christmas, Lloydspharmacy has launched a new Dog Pedometer, so that dog owners can give their beloved pet a gift that will benefit them well beyond the usual festive treats and bones, and give them the healthiest and happiest start to the New Year. With the capacity to count up to 99,999 steps and offering two different modes to fit smaller and larger animals, the Dog Pedometer will help keep track of a pet’s exercising so that owners can plan and monitor its improvement over time.

A lightweight and compact device, the electronic Dog Pedometer is designed in white and black in the shape of a canine’s face, so it will look charming on every four-legged friend. Sliding comfortably onto a collar, its one touch digital display provides instant feedback on the dog’s activity.

Other gifts in the Lloydspharmacy Christmas pet gift range include a black dog collar with silver paw motifs, which is available in two sizes and made from 100% polyurethane, and a cat collar, that comes in gold and silver, with diamante studs and a bell.

Diabetes is a serious condition, which led Lloydspharmacy to introduce free diabetes tests through their pharmacies.

About Lloydspharmacy:
Lloydspharmacy is the trading name of Lloyds Pharmacy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Celesion AG based in Stuttgart. Lloydspharmacy has more than 1700 pharmacies across the UK and employs more than 16,000 members of staff.

Lloydspharmacy offers free type 2 diabetes screening tests and free blood pressure tests.

Press Release Author: Harley Medical Group

Industry: Healthcare

Press Release Summary: The Harley Medical Group, UKs largest cosmetic surgery group, reports rise in tummy tuck ops for weight loss patients

Press Release Body: The Harley Medical Group, the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, has seen a dramatic five year rise in patients undergoing body corrective surgery to cope with the after effects of extreme post obesity weight loss. Dubbed “Post Obesity Surgery” (POS), various surgical procedures such as tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), male breast reduction (gynaecomastia) and breast uplift (mastopexy) are booming as patients book in for body corrective surgery to treat their post obesity bodies.

Data taken over the past five years from The Harley Medical Group, which has conducted more than 10,000 POS procedures over this period, shows that tummy tucks are up 31%, male breast reductions are up 24% and female breast uplifts are up 18%.

Mr Frati, a surgeon at The Harley Medical Group, cites the UK’s obesity epidemic as the cause for this boom. With 21% of men and 22% of women in the UK being classed as clinically obese, which is predicted to rise to a quarter of all adults in 2010*, The Harley Medical Group estimates the abdominoplasty procedure alone will overtake breast augmentation as the clinic’s most popular treatment over the next ten years.

A patient of The Harley Medical Group patient, John Wright from Lincolnshire, who had a tummy tuck operation plus gynaecomastia (male breast reduction) after he lost 22 stone commented: “After the immense effort and hard work of loosing so much weight it was utterly soul destroying to see vast folds of skin hanging from my body. My local GP wouldn’t refer me to havecosmetic surgery on the NHS and so I was forced to go private. I used almost £10,000 of my savings, but I think it was worth every penny.”

Lisa Littlehales, head nurse at The Harley Medical Group, explained: “It’s heartbreaking to see patients who have achieved so much to lose dramatic amounts of weight so embarrassed by their post weight loss bodies. Surgery is able to transform both their bodies which have been so vastly overstretched and in the process restore their confidence.”

She added: “Many patients describe how they wish they had addressed the problem before they became obese, but talk of the creeping nature of obesity - slowly moving from being simply over weight to clinically obese over a ten year period. Many feel let down by healthcare professionals and feel strongly that the government’s focus on educating the public on healthy eating and exercise routines is long overdue and also needs far greater focus and outreach work.”

Press Release Author: Lara Manchik

Industry: Healthcare

Press Release Summary: Sophisticated, femininely tailored healthcare lab coats get stain-fighting and wrinkle-resistant features from smart fabric technologies

Press Release Body: San Clemente, CA, November 18, 2008 — For the first time ever, healthcare industry lab coats get sophisticated, stain-fighting and wrinkle-resistant properties with the combination of DuPont Dual Action Teflon® fabric protector and HIGH IQ® Easycare fabric finish. Designed especially for a woman’s physique, Medelita’s all-cotton women’s lab coats repel and fight stains, while its machine washable fabric maintains a wrinkle-free, professional finish.

“Female healthcare practitioners have worked hard to get where they are in the medical industry, with women now constituting a majority in certain medical specialties,” says Medelita Founder Lara Manchik. “We believe that they deserve a woman’s lab coat that works just as hard as they do, and are extremely proud to be the first to design a flattering women’s lab coat that is also functional. You can’t see it or feel it, but the technology keeps our coats stain-free and sharp, right out of the dryer.

“In the medical field, image is as important as aptitude.”

As a female emergency room Physician Assistant, Manchik’s own experiences convinced her that the frumpy unisex garb of past failed to convey clinical competence and professionalism. To outfit her female colleagues with attire befitting their tireless efforts, clinician-turned-entrepreneur, Manchik created Medelita as a departure from the boxy doctor’s lab coats – made for the male figure and representative of a time when men dominated all clinical fields of medicine.

The Medelita lab coat is designed to repel fluids, which bead up and can be brushed off when spilled on the fabric, and require fewer cleanings than ordinary lab coats. Thanks to the Advanced Dual Action Teflon® fabric protector, the fabric releases deeper stains during a typical laundering cycle and does not require the expense of commercial cleaning services. Owners of the Medelita lab coat spend less time cleaning, reduce the use of environmental resources, and save money as they are not frequently replacing permanently stained coats.

“Just as athletes wear functional fabrics to enhance their performance during competition, the long days that our clients work are a true test of endurance,” says Manchik. “Moving freely and feeling comfortable all day in a lab coat, while maintaining a fresh, confident appearance, is very important to the conscientious modern female clinician.”

The Medelita lab coat relies on HIGH IQ® Easycare Plus high-tech fabric finish to maintain a clean and professional look, day after day. The high performance, low maintenance fabric emerges from the dryer without wrinkles and resists the destructive effects of cleaning cycles and everyday wear. In addition, the lab coat maintains its original shape, without sacrificing a soft and smooth-to-the-touch finish.

Made from high-denier, 100-percent brushed cotton, Medelita lab coats are designed specifically for women with a focus on fit and function. The tailored lab coat has a feminine shape with a rounded collar, hidden inside pocket, traditional side slits, and French finish inside seams. The fluid-resistant Medelita lab coat is available in sizes 0 to 20, with optional custom embroidery.

In addition to high quality lab coats, Medelita provides a line of performance women’s healthcare apparel, including clinician scrubs and nursing scrubs, which are available for purchase at www.medelita.com.

Press Release Summary: The Harley Medical Group reports, bookings for surgery amongst 45-65 year olds booms thanks to multiple marriages

Press Release Body: According to The Harley Medical Group, the UK’s biggest cosmetic surgery provider, bookings for surgery amongst 45-65 year olds doubled in 2008. When explaining why they’d opted for ’silver surgery’, patients from The Harley Medical Group’s 23 UK clinics cited second marriages as their main motivation.

Liz Dale, Director of The Harley Medical Group, commented: “Many patients have thought about surgery for a long time and when they come out of a long-term relationship it can be part of their start afresh strategy. Cosmetic surgery helps give our patients renewed confidence as they embark on new relationships and second marriages. We also see many patients using Botox to help keep their appearance fresh when they have a younger partner.”

With second marriages now accounting for one in three marriages in the UK, a desire to look their best walking up the aisle the second-time round is encouraging patients to book in for procedures to dilute the ravages of time. Popular pre-nuptial procedures with middle-aged women include Blepharoplasty, Brow Lift, Breast Uplift, Botox and Face Lift. Top ops for men include Rhinoplasty and Otoplasty, which are often chosen to alter a feature they’ve long been unhappy with.

Liz Dale continued: “It’s not only the demand for cosmetic surgery that’s changing, it’s also the perceptions associated with it. Twenty years ago the majority of our patients wouldn’t tell anyone about their surgery; it would be a complete secret. Now the majority are happy to share the details of surgery with their families and friends.”

Press Release Summary: Parents Can Make Surgery Harder For Their Kids

Press Release Body: (SOUTHBURY, CT)—Nearly 5 million children underwent surgery in the United States in 2008 and according to one prominent anesthesiologist, many of those surgeries were made more difficult by parents who refused to follow their doctor’s orders.

Dr. Armen Ketchedjian, author of the book Will It Hurt? A Parent’s Practical Guide to Children’s Surgery, says that parents often ignore doctors’ directions and requests for pre-surgery testing and preparation.

Considering the stakes, the reasons parents give for not complying with their doctor often seem, well, unreasonable: Scheduled tests may interfere with family vacation plans or because parents, in their own opinion, feel that the requested tests or
diets aren’t important.

“I’ve seen parents who felt that the rules didn’t apply to them,” says Dr. Ketch, as he is known to his patients. “They assume that doctor’s will understand if certain tests are not done or if certain consultations are missed.”

Missed appointments and tests cause unnecessary delays in the preparation for surgery according to Dr. Ketch, who says that medical professionals order the tests for a reason.

“We in the medical profession are held to a higher standard and so we can’t take anything for granted,” says Dr. Ketch. “We need the fullest cooperation of parents to provide the best care possible.”

Will it Hurt? is a guide for parents whose children need surgery and a big part of the book’s message is the importance of the preparations that contribute to a successful surgery. Dr. Ketch says he believes that informed parents make the experience easy for everyone, including their child. And that can pay big dividends after the surgery.

According to Dr. Ketch, “Children who are less anxious need less anesthesia during surgery and less recovery time after the surgery. Parents can ensure their children are more relaxed by being informed and by not putting any undue stress on the process.”

Will It Hurt? helps educate parents about pediatric surgery. It is an easy to-read resource will give you, your child and your family the help and reassurance you need to make the surgical experience as stress-free as possible.

Listed in The Guide to America’s Top Anesthesiologists by the Consumer Research Council of America, Dr. Ketch trained at Cornell Medical Center, with a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a pain management elective at Boston Children’s Hospital. He has also worked to help develop new techniques in ambulatory anesthesia, taught medical students and residents, and cared for more than 10,000 patients.

Dr. Ketch is also the author of the children’s book Golden Apples (winner of the 2008 Reviewer’s Choice Award), a beautifully illustrated book that aims to help educate children about the dangers of drug abuse.
