Press Release Body = Albany, NY. The Chairs of the NYS Senate and Assembly
Committees on Health, Senator Kemp Hannon and Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, will
hold a joint press conference on Monday March 26th at 9:00 am in the well of the
legislative office building. Senator Hannon and Assemblyman Gottfried will be
joined by representatives of the National Kidney Foundation to bring awareness of
the effects of chronic kidney disease, its prevalence in New York State, and the
necessity to catch this disease early. A major kidney related health initiative
will be announced at this press conference. March is kidney disease awareness month
and advocates will also visit the Capital that day to meet with their legislators to
share their personal experiences and talk with lawmakers about ways to stop the
growth of kidney disease in the state. Lawmakers will also be invited to take part
in a Kidney Early Evaluation Program, a screening program that can identify
individuals with early signs of kidney disease. Early detection is key to fighting
kidney disease. The Nation Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York has screened
more than 1500 people in the last three years. More than 65% of these individuals
showed at least one potential sign of chronic kidney disease.
